Flo Smerconish Community Involvement
Burpee Park Renovation Project
Doylestown Borough is an enchanting place. Since its incorporation in 1838, it has been blessed with citizens who take their town seriously. Henry Chapman Mercer and his family graced us with a museum, swimming pool, and the Fonthill Complex, including the famous tile works. W. Atlee Burpee gave us the land on which Burpee Park is now located.
The park, dedicated to the Borough in the early 1900’s, is located at the corner of East Oakland Avenue and Church Street. It is our most popular park. Although the Borough tries to replace damaged or obsolete equipment on an as-needed basis, the park desperately needs updated equipment and play areas. We are now trying to raise $150,000.00 for park improvements which have been reviewed and approved by the Borough's Park Board and Borough Council. Contributions are tax deductible under tax code 501(c)(3).
